Cultural Committees
Hutt River, Mullewa Wadjari, Southern Yamatji, and Widi Mob Native Title Claim Group negotiated an alternative settlement that resulted in Yamatji Nation Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA).
Being part of the Cultural Committee is a great opportunity to get involved and represent your community!
As a representative, you are expected to contribute advice on important topics and issues such as:
Proposed Management Plans: Contribute to new or amended management plans for the Yamatji Conservation Estate.
Lands, Water, and Heritage: Share insights on the stewardship of our natural and cultural resources.
Cultural & Community Expectations: Help shape the future of our community by voicing cultural and communal needs.
You need to be a member of the Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation (YSRC) to join your Cultural Committee. If you're a descendant of apical ancestors with a traditional connection to the ILUA agreement area, you are eligible to apply when positions become available.
Cultural Committees ensure that the ‘right people for country’ are involved in planning and engaging with our community. Our representatives are expected to be available to attend all meetings throughout the year, providing a consistent and committed voice for our people.
2025 Cultural Committee Selection Process is now underway.

The Cultural Committees play a vital role in our governance structure. To ensure fairness, accountability, and consistency across all groups, YSRC has confirmed the following rules for voting:
One-Member-One-Vote
Each registered YSRC member is entitled to one vote only in the Cultural Committees election.
Members may only vote in the election for the Cultural Committee that relates to their apical ancestor group (Hutt River, Mullewa Wadjari, Southern Yamatji, or Widi Mob).
Members cannot vote in more than one group’s election.
How Voting Works
If six (6) or fewer nominations are received for a group, no vote will be required, and those nominees will be automatically appointed.
If more than six (6) nominations are received, a ballot will be held at the Meeting.
Ballot papers will list all eligible nominees for your group. You may select up to six (6) candidates, but no more. Any ballot with more than six selections will be invalid.
All ballots will be collected and counted.
Attendance Requirements
The Meetings will be held in person only on 9–10 September 2025.
These meetings will not be hybrid or online — members must attend in person to participate and cast their vote.
Please note: No travel allowance will be provided for these meetings.
Member Code of Conduct
We remind all members that participation in these meetings must be consistent with the Member Code of Conduct under the YSRC Governance Charter:
Members are expected to act respectfully and responsibly at all times.
Disruptive, aggressive, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.
Any breach of the Code may result in immediate removal from the meeting, and serious or repeated breaches may lead to disciplinary action under the YSRC Constitution.
We thank all members for supporting this important process and ensuring strong, culturally grounded governance for the Yamatji Nation.
